Dave,

Good to hear from you again. How on earth did you ever find me. I saw your companies website. Seems like you have gathered some awsome clients since we last talked.

I am truly excited for you. Cheers!

Yeah, I've worked with LogoWorks and have been mostly pleased, but have had somewhat mixed results. LogoWorks has an awesome business model and they give small business owners a way to get a professionally designed logo at a decent price, but as you've pointed out, you can also find a designer on your own and maybe even save a few dollars. Design is such an objective discipline (it's an art form), I find that opinions of quality regarding logos vary so much it's incredible. It's not uncommon for 50% of the world to love a logo and the other 50% hate it. Normally, the better direction you give (in terms of style, colors, etc), the happier you will be with the results. If you say "surprise me" or "give me a cool logo", you will probably be disappointed with the end product.

By the way, I like the bottom version of the first concept.
