Since September, 2005 I have been collecting business plan competitions via the web and storing them in a folder. As of April 2006 I started to put them into a data base to be a resource for entrepreneurs & the competitions themselves via the internet.
Currently I have 52 competitions in the data base and 363 more pages in my folder to sort through; I started with 430+ pages.
The idea came to me after starting a bplan competition at Utah Valley State College as a student during the 2004-2005 school year. Since then Dr. Peter Robinson, the Morris Professor of Entrepreneurship at UVSC has been interested in writing a paper with me about the data I have collected.
The website beta test should be up and operational June 1st, 2006. The research paper is targeted for completion for November, 2006. I am excited about becoming a part of the business academic community.
However, I hope that the data base of business plan competitions and the other resources I am gathering for entrepreneurs are of value enough that the site will have 10,000 + visitors a day, after 3 years on the web.
I would like to generate revenue from Google and Yahoo PPC advertisements, along with affiliate commissions via business plan books and software. I toyed with the idea of making it a subscription service or a pay per report service but, my surveys & mentors have suggested against that. So the resource will be a free service so long as the user logs into the site.
